This is my happy place, my fairytale land made of food, and recipes, fueled with adventures of trying new things. Inspired by my mother, who made everything at home, and powered by the fearless Julia Child’s kitchen adventures, I have created this space to think, talk, and write about food. All the while raising two children and leading a school.
This is me unhindered, with my guard down, enjoying the kitchen. This is me baking myself happy and making memories for my children in a place where memory is a national treasure.
This is me, a Palestinian mother, shuttling kids to school, dabkeh practice, basketball clinic. Moving through an endless to do list; doctors appointments, birthday parties and everything else every other mother does in this world, but still worrying about my children’s future here at home in Palestine and abroad.
This is me making dinner, or not making it on many days, creating cakes with different designs, all the while, in the back of my head, the intention of preserving Palestinian cuisine and protecting it brews infinitely.
This is me the school principal escaping the day into my own world of ginger bread houses and layered cakes…
This is me hoping one day I will write a food memoir that will tell a human story, of a family of four growing up and living in this country, in this region at a very difficult time.
For now, though, step into my happy place, come into my kitchen and see what is on our kitchen table.
